Short Historical Description
of the Unitarian Headquarters,
the Bishop Palace and the Budapest Unitarian Church in
Nagy Ignác Street

The Headquarters, which have also been functioning as the Bishop Palace and which contain the church within itself, had been planned to be built since 1882, thanks to the advocacy and tireless efforts of Dr. Ferenc Székely, lay leader of the Congregation at that time. Designed by Samu Petz, Professor at the Technical University, the Headquarters were built between 1888 and 1890.

It was on October 30, 1888 that, on a piece of land donated by the Government, Rev. Károly Derzsi, and lay leader János Hajós ordered this significant project, according to the Holtspach A. and Sons CO. built the Unitarian Headquarters and Church.

The consecration of the church took place on October 26. 1890. The centennial anniversary took place on September 22, 1990.

In the course of the last century the Headquarters and the Church had to undergo restauration work several times. The renovation of the curch is still under process.
