Speak to Us

Eternal God,

Once You chose to speak to your people through your prophets, and now You address us also. You address all those who are able to hear, understand, and grasp in their conscience, Your heavenly message. You address us through eternal laws, and we approoach you now with the word of prayer.

Our voice seems as a gentle breeze, Yours is often a resounding tempest.
Our word is weak and obscure, Yours is pure wisdom.
Our words mean always our requests, Yours - eternal law.
In spite of all of these, we pray that You accept the weak babble of our tongue.

Today we want to worship your perfection in our words. Let them express our gratitude for Your blessings. But since to be human means also to be perpetually asking of You, may our words express again our requests.

What should we ask of You this time?
Should we ask for bread to nourish our bodies?
Should we ask for clothes, to protect us and keep us warm?
Should we ask for good luck, good health, and streength to be always with us?

Thousands of wishes are released when we unlock the door of our wishes. But today we do not ask for all of these, but only for one thing. That we may believe - and this will include all these other things.

Speak to us with teaching words when we are tired: "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy, and I will give you rest."

Speak to us words of comfort when we cry: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Speak to us words of wisdom when we feel tempted: "But resist him, firm in your faith..."

Enlighten our minds and strengthen our will, so that we can accept all these sayings as pure truth, and help us to believe in them as valid for our whole lives.

Amen.
