September 1999.

Canadian guests under the memorial plaque in Pécs.
A group of Canadian parishioners from our partnerchurch in Toronto visited us during the month of September. With the guidance of minister Joseph Kászoni they had a tour of Hungary. The route lead through the cities of Gyõr, Budapest, Pécs, Hódmezõvásárhely, Füzesgyarmat, Kocsord and back to Budapest.
An account of the trip with many pictures have been published on the Internet by one of the tourists.

December 19., 1999.

Children's Christmas Tree Festival 1999.
On the 19th of December, Sunday 4:00 pm. we had the Children's Christmas Tree Festival in Nagy Ignác street. Our guest was Ildikó Kilin, a muppet show actor. The children recited little songs and poems. Pictures were taken, click to the animation or here.

December 25-26., 1999.

According to our ancestral custom in every year since 1888., on Christmas Holidays, December 25. and 26. we held a Christmas Holiday sermon with Lord's Supper in both churches:

  • Budapest V. district Nagy Ignác str. 2-4. 11:00 am, followed by a meeting held by our bishop on the first floor.
  • Budapest IX. district Hõgyes Endre str. 3. 10:00 am.

January 16., 2000.

Commemoration. Click.On Sunday, 11:00 am. we had a holiday sermon, commemorating the foundation of the Unitarian Church 432 years ago. The sermon was held by minister József Kászoni. Dr. Mihály Balázs, professor of the a Szeged University held a discourse entitled "European humanism - Transilvanian reformation". The Heroes' Square School of Music performed conducted by Mrs. Princz. István Kónya, lute artist, performed musical pieces from the 16-17. centuries. These were followed by an exhibition of the paintress Mrs. Gidófalvi, Etelka Pataky, in commemoration of her 102nd birth anniversary. Obituary held by historian Peter Sas.

The programme was closed with potluck as usually,
our guests had a cold buffet in the congregation's chamber.

February 5., 2000.

Ferenc BalázsOn the 5th of February, Saturday 5 pm. was taking place the Ferenc Balázs and book premiére, held in Nagy Ignác street 4., presented by the -commemoration Unitarian Church in Budapest, Unitarian Church in Hungary, Szent László Academy, Püski Publishing .

The Püski Publishing presented the newly edited books of Ferenc Balázs: Bejárom a kerek világot (Wandering All Over the Round World), Rög alatt (Beneath the Soil). With the contributions of:

- Dr. Endre Medvigy: "Az erdélyi Tizenegyektõl a népi szociográfiáig" (From The Transylvanian Eleven to the Folk Sociography) - a lecture;
- Sándor Püski publisher spoke about Ferenc Balázs and Dániel Simén;
- György Beke, writer, presented the works Wandering All Over the Round World and Beneath the Soil;
- Szabolcs Felhõs: report on the life of Ferenc Balázs in Bereg (East-Hungary);Christine Morgan
- József Kászoni, minister, presented the book of Mrs. Ferenc Balázs (Christine Morgan, born: Christine Frederiksen): "Alabaster Village";
- with the performance of the actress Katalin Lukácsy and folk singer Mária Petrás.

The commemoration was followed by a potluck. The books of Ferenc Balázs were available. Host of the evening, organizer of the Millenium 2000 programme series, organizer of this evening show: minister Joseph Kászoni.

March 4.

Saturday 5 pm. we were listening to a lecture entitled: "1848 in Hungarian Literature". Our guest was: writer Aladár Lászlóffy, Kossuth prize winner.

  • With the contributions of: Júlia Csoma playing on flute and Béla Sztankovits playing on classical guitar.
  • Mária Petrás ceramics exhibiton opening: writer István Kocsis presented the pieces exhibited in the congregational chamber.

The meeting ended with potluck. This also was part of the Millenium 2000 programme-series.

April 21.

Preceding Easter, on Good Friday, at 6 pm., in Nagy Ignác street 4. the UNITARIAN PASSION have been presented.

April 23-24. Easter

"Good Teacher, WHAT MUST I DO TO RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE?
...Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not accuse anyone falsely; respect your father and your mother... COME AND FOLLOW ME"

Worship on both days: Budapest V. district, Nagy Ignác street 4. at 11 am., and Budapest IX. district, Hõgyes Endre street 3.: 10 am.

May 7.

On the 7th of May we held a Mothers Day worship, followed by potluck in the congregational chamber.

May 14.

The Millenial Programme Series, held jointly by the Unitarian Church in Hungary and First Unitarian Church in Budapest had its next event on the 14th of May. On this day we were having a worship featuring:

  • Miklós Ferenczy dean-minister, our guest from Kolozsvár, Transylvania;
  • Liturgy lead by: József Kászoni, minister of the congregation;
  • With the contribution of: Emese Jánky, cello artist.

The worship had been followed by an exhibition of the wood engraving artist Béla Gy. Szabó. Our guests had an opportunity to admire the series entitled: "La Divina Commedia" in the congregational chamber.

  • The exhibition was opened by Miklós Ferenczy, the preserver of Béla Gy. Szabó inheritance. After the opening a potluck followed for all our guests whom we invited for this occasion.

June 11-12. Pentecost

Pentecost Holiday was held on the 11th and 12th of June.

June 18.

In Nagy Ignác street 4., on first Sunday following Pentecost the confirmation of the youth have taken place, in the course of the worship starting at 11 am. After this we had a potluck in the congregational chamber.

August 17.

August 20.

At 11 am. we had a worship celebrating the 1000th year since the foundation of the Hungarian state. Minister József Kászoni led a Hungarian and English ceremony, followed by performances of: CORO VOCI BIANCHE CITTA ' DI ANCONA (Children's Choire from the City of Ancona) and the TAVASZ KAMARAKÓRUS (Spring Choire from Budapest).

After the Sunday worship we held a potluck in the congregational chamber with an exhibition of the silk paintress Erzsébet Zsombori.

24. September

On the last Sunday of the month we held the Autumn Thanksgiving holiday just like we did for 110 years, every year since 1890. There have been sermons connected with Lord's Supper in Nagy Ignác street and in Hõgyes Endre street as well.

4. November

Starting at 17 pm we listened to a Millenial Concert presented by the symphonic orchestra of the V.Z. Pro Musica ensemble, featuring: Corelli, Albinoni, Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart. Conducted by: Norbert Nagy. Prayer by minister József Kászoni.
