Gergely was born on November 14th, 1864 in Búcsúszentlászló (Zala).  Gergely's father was Menyhárt JAKABFY and his mother was Rozália KANTA. He had four brothers and a sister, named Károly, János, Sándor, Károly and Mária.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
