Gergely was born on September 3rd, 1833 in Nemeshetés.  Gergely's father was Gergely (nemeshetési) JAKABFY and his mother was Rozália  HOMPÓ.  His paternal grandparents were György (nemeshetési) JAKABFY and N. N.. He had a brother and three sisters, named Sándor, Trézsi, Anna and Terézia.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 81 on June 7th, 1915 in Nemeshetés.
